The Parliamentary Ombudsman of Malta, Judge Joseph Zammit McKeon, received the new Ambassador of Spain to Malta, Her Excellency Miriam Álvarez de la Rosa Rodríguez, at the Office of the Ombudsman in Valletta at the start of her diplomatic mission.

During the meeting, the Ombudsman welcomed the Ambassador and wished her success during her tenure in Malta. He noted the strong and longstanding relations between Malta and Spain, which extend beyond diplomatic ties to cooperation between institutions, including oversight bodies. He also referred to the continued strengthening of these relations, supported by increased connectivity between the two countries.

The Ombudsman recalled past cooperation with the Spanish Defensor del Pueblo and underlined the importance of maintaining and further developing these links.

In the course of the discussion, the Ombudsman outlined the role of the Office in safeguarding the rights of individuals in their dealings with the public administration, particularly those who may lack the means or support to seek redress. He emphasised that the Office remains accessible to all persons in Malta, including Spanish nationals.

The meeting served to reaffirm and strengthen the constructive relationship between the Office of the Ombudsman and the Embassy of Spain in Malta.
