The Commissioner for Education, Chief Justice Emeritus Vincent A. De Gaetano, visited G.F. Abela Junior College during its annual Freshers’ Week activities.
The Commissioner was welcomed by the Principal of the Junior College, Mr Paul Xuereb, who explained the purpose of the week and the opportunities it provides for students at the start of the academic year.
Held in the Junior College foyer, Freshers’ Week brings together College services, student societies and a number of external organisations, giving students the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the support, activities and services available to them throughout their studies.
During the visit, the Principal also outlined the College’s mission to provide a high quality, inclusive and holistic learning experience that equips students with the knowledge and lifelong skills required for further education, active citizenship, employment and life beyond the classroom.
The Commissioner for Education thanked Mr Xuereb for the welcome and for the opportunity to engage with the College community. He wished the Principal, staff and students a successful and productive scholastic year.
The visit forms part of the Office of the Ombudsman’s ongoing outreach efforts within the education sector, aimed at increasing awareness of the role of the Commissioner for Education and bringing the services of the Office closer to students and educational institutions.
