Commissioner for Education meets new students at Institute for Education Freshers’ Day

The Office of the Ombudsman once again participated in the Institute for Education (IfE) Freshers’ Day, marking the start of the academic year for students beginning Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes.

The Commissioner for Education, Chief Justice Emeritus Vincent A. De Gaetano, visited the Institute and addressed students as they embarked on a new stage in their studies and professional formation.

In his remarks, the Commissioner reflected on the importance of the teaching profession and the responsibility educators carry in shaping future generations. He encouraged students to approach their studies not only as an academic pursuit but also as preparation for a profession that requires commitment, judgement and a strong sense of responsibility towards entrusted to their care.

The participation of the Office of the Ombudsman forms part of its ongoing outreach within the education sector, aimed at promoting awareness of the role of the Commissioner for Education and encouraging a culture of fairness, good administration and constructive engagement within educational institutions.

The Commissioner also took the opportunity to acknowledge the work of the Institute for Education in supporting the professional development of teachers and educators. He also pointed out that the few complaints that his office receives directed against the IfE are in most cases solved ‘in-house’ by the Institute itself within a matter of days, obviating the need for a decision on his part. The Commissioner wished the new students every success in their studies.
